HILANG CHILD SEEN THE BOREAL

Less than a month on from Hilang Child’s comeback single ‘Good To Be Young’, the Indonesian-Welsh artist Ed Riman shares another sweeping production. ‘Seen The Boreal’ is a sonic exploration of arctic tundras and wind-whipped landscapes that act as a geological representation of Riman’s experience of anxiety. Fuelled by self-comparison and analysis of minutia, these lyrics “are you crippled by hindsight? Wishing you’d done things so different the first time around?” is a mirror-reflection interrogation. The intimacy of ‘Seen The Boreal’ is furthered by a video directed by Tough Honey, in which the artist candidly portrays those moments of all-consuming anxiety, whether that be struggling to socialise or unable to leave the bed. It’s powerfully honest and will no doubt connect with the listeners and watchers. - Hannah Thacker
